Link PNG began operation, Saturday 1st November 2014, with its inaugural flight PX808 flying from Nadzab Airport in Lae (Morobe Province) to Hoskins and Rabaul. During his public speech, Mr. Nerau, Chairman of the Independent Public Business Corporation who unveiled Link PNG air service at Nadzab, said: “I see the establishment and first flight of Link PNG as just the first step that will open up many opportunities to improve services to remote areas where airstrips are unsuitable for larger planes.” The launch of “Link PNG” coincides with Air Niugini’s 41 years of service as PNG’s national flag carrier. PNG: Mount Wilhelm Adventure

PNG Trekking Adventures shows travelers another of Papua New Guinea's hidden secrets that is Mount Wilhelm. It stands at 4.509 meters, taking approximately seven to eight challenging hours to summit. Tourists from Europe, Asia and USA are now coming across to the “Land of the Unexpected” to climb. Many of these climbers have climbed Mount Everest or even all seven of the highest summits in the world. But this adventure is not all about the mountain. Getting to your destination is just the start of your adventure. Driving from Mt Hagen is never dull. The road is challenging, but the views are worth it. Seeing the traditional houses that people are still living in. Going up high and experiencing the cold when we are virtually living on the equator. The awe inspiring beauty of walking to base camp. It is 4-5 days of “WOW”! See brochure... or check out dates and prices.

Limeburners Single Malt Whisky, of the Great Southern Distilling Company, has been awarded “Liquid Gold” in Jim Murray’s Whisky Bible. Jim Murray is the world’s leading whisky critic and his Whisky Bible is highly regarded by whisky professionals and enthusiasts. The bible published in London is used as a guide all over the world. Murray explains it as “sound and harmonious whisky” that remains “juicy and full bodied until the end.” Three other Limeburners expressions also received scores over 90.
Eco Beach Resort opens for the first time during wet season

In 2015, Eco Beach Resort 130 kilometres south west of Broome will be opening for the first time from January through to March. As these months are Broome’s “wet” season, the hotel will be opening with limited accommodation and facilities though.

The property will only be open Friday/Saturday/Sunday nights inclusive (and Monday public holidays). Only the Villa and Beach-Houses accommodation (air-conditioned) will be available at this time of the year, not the eco tents. The resorts restaurant will be open for continental breakfast, light lunch and reduced bistro style dinner menu with special BBQ nights. Jack’s bar will be open daily from 10.00am to 8.00pm with an extensive range of beverages.

As the airstrip at Eco Beach is unsealed, flight access cannot be guaranteed throughout the summer period, but guests can easily self drive to Eco Beach (only one hour south of Broome) or the resort can arrange private car transfers. See rate grid... See Factsheet...

Quicksilver: Whale Shark swims with Silverswift Divers

Divers aboard Cairns-based dive and snorkel vessel, Silverswift, had the rare encounter of swimming with a five meter whale shark on 3rd of November 2014.

At the first reef site of the day, Coral Gardens at Flynn Reef, Silverswift Dive instructor Taku Utsunomiya said the whale shark swam close for around 6 minutes swimming around them at depths of two to twelve meters in a very special and awesome experience. A whale shark, believed to be the same, was also sighted from Pro Dive Cairns’ liveaboard vessel Scuba Pro just three days earlier at nearby Milln Reef.

More often associated with the northern waters of Western Australia, whale shark encounters on the Great Barrier Reef have been more frequent in recent years with several reported sightings. Read more...

… Russel Hore, head of Quicksilver’s Reef Biosearch environmental division

Russel has been diving into his work for 24 years – and is still as passionate as ever! As a marine biologist working for Quicksilver Cruises, Australia’s most awarded Great Barrier Reef tour operator, he escorts guests wanting to learn so much more about the wonders of this amazing ecosystem that is the Great Barrier Reef. He shared with us what his daily routine looks like and what he loves most about his work:

“A day in the life?  How lucky are we to call the Great Barrier Reef our office - the only suits out here are wetsuits! With my team of fellow marine biologists, we are focused on education, research and monitoring.

We take small groups of keen snorkellers for a once in a lifetime experience, turning the ocean into a classroom, and hopefully creating new ambassadors who are passionate about the reef. Reef Biosearch began in an era before the term “ecotourism” was ever spawned, but I strongly believe that what we do fits the bill nicely!

Snorkelling is the international leveller – we have taken out politicians and labourers, movie stars and accountants, rock musicians and mechanics. The youngest snorkeller was 18 months old (a very special trip!), and the oldest was a one legged 94 year old gentleman from LA! One of my staff even took out a 60 year old blind man, who had a hand held tour, and animals brought up so he could use his other senses of touch and smell.

I’ve had hundreds of “memorable moments” out on the reef, from swimming with whales and large pods of dolphins, to a chance encounter with a rare whale shark in several hundred meters of water. I’ve been lucky to witness coral spawning, humpback whales breaching and discovered several new species of jellyfish. I still get amazed by the peace and serenity every time I go to the reef.”

Crikey Camper Hire conquering the European market

Crikey boys Andrew and Adam had quite a busy time travelling through Europe in October and November training approximately 300 agents in Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, Austria and Switzerland to explain the benefits of their product over the traditional 4WD camper or motor home. The off-road trailers offering clients the possibility to leave their accommodation behind and to set off to explore with their 4WD only received great feedback.

Crikey Camper Hire will attend Vakantiebers in Utrecht in January and ITB in March 2015 where they will launch their new marketing video as well as the new “Crikey University” online training portal. The training and accreditation section will allow agents to gain and refresh product information and a “self-service” section will offer them the possibility to download client documents in real time.
